  3. Just below the clearing you see this wonderous stream, splashing over rocks, as it winds its way down the mountain.
  4. With much to remember on this hiking trip, you take photos of both the flower and the stream, and begin to compose the blog post about them in my head, as I walk.

Saturday Special #24: Autumn Favorites

I took a peek at this week's questions right after I'd posted my Thursday Thirteen! Oh well, nothing wrong with a few more . . .

  1. Favorite Autumn Activity:
Halloween - At our old house, I enjoyed sitting on the porch with Shrike handing out candy, but there's not much Trick or Treat in this neighborhood (plenty of kids though, that's odd). Last year we threw a party, and we're planning another one for this year. Oh, and Election Day :-)
  2. Favorite Autumn Meal:
    Thanksgiving Dinner
  3. Favorite Autumn Drink:
Woodchuck Hard Cider (Shrike and I shared one on Sunday - hopefully, it will be my last for the season ;-) )
  4. Favorite Autumn Weather:
Cool and crisp, but not too cold. Enough for a sweater or light jacket, but no coat, hat or gloves required.

  3. You are able to climb the cliff and enter the lighthouse, when I see Shrike waiting inside for me, with a change of dry clothes, and a glass of wine.
  4. Happy to be able to, you hug her hello and say, "I'm glad to be home. The commute was a bitch today."

Saturday Special #20: Personal Preferences

  1. Quiet evening at home or out on the town?
Usually at home. For us, "out on the town" generally means dinner and a trip to Target.
  2. Watch a movie or Reading a good book?
More likely a book. Especially if the movie option is something one Shrike picked out - generally either a thriller or something of the bad lesbian genre. (Sorry, hon.)
  3. Order a meal or cooking one yourself?
A few months ago, when I was being frugal and domestic, I would have chosen to cook it myself. Right now, we're more likely to go out.
  4. Going for a walk or Taking a ride in the car?
Probably a walk with Shrike and the dogs. Although driving around looking for trouble can be fun, too.

  4. You return to your car and carefully make my way around the hole, and drive like hell, outta there.

Saturday Special #18: This Past Week, Did You . . .

  1. Have anything exciting happen?
Well, let's see. . . I started my new job (transfer, promotion, raise), talked to the Governor on the phone and saw him in person, and got started on Cycle #2. Nah, it's been a pretty typical week.
  2. Buy anything new (and I don't mean groceries)?
No, I don't think I bought much of anything this week, other than gas and food.
  3. Go anywhere special?
    Work, at my new location.
  4. Discover a new restaurant?
No, but there's an interesting looking place that's being built nearby and their "coming soon" sign just changed to "now hiring," so that's promising.

Saturday Special #17: Silly Questions

  1. Who is the last person you talked to?
    Do animals count? BigGaloot.
    Does email count? My mom.
    Actual human, in person? Shrike.
  2. What is your weather like right now?
According to Weather.com: 69° F, 91% humidity, Cloudy, Winds 5 mph from the Northeast; Highof 82° F expected, lw of 66° F; 60% chance of scattered thunderstorms
  3. Where will you be this weekend?
Yesterday we were at CapitalCity PrideFest. Today, we'll probably just hang around the house.
  4. What's for dinner?
Hmm, good question; we haven't discussed that yet. We might go out to dinner, otherwise we'll probably just scrounge something around the house. In that case, I'll probably have leftover nachos from our dinner at Fuddruckers yesterday.

Saturday Special #16: Vacation Preferences

  1. Traveling by Air, Sea or Land?
Land, if it's less than five or six hours. Air if it's farther and we can afford it.
  2. Hotel, Camp Grounds or Summer Cottage?
I enjoy camping, but prefer that be the destination itself if I'm going to do that. Although, we've staying in a cabin at a campground near the beach, and that was nice. If I'm going to all the work to tent camp though, I don't want to have to clean up and go into town. Hotels are just fine, but I've also enjoyed when we've stayed at B&Bs a couple of times. We've never really done a "summer cottage" type of thing.
  3. Sightseeing, Weather Related Sports or Relaxing?:
I prefer sightseeing and relaxing. Just hanging out, wandering around, shopping (in funky, arty shops or touristy places - not things I could do at home) and the like.
  4. Favorite vacation season?
For popular destinations, it's nice to go at the tail end of the season, when it's not so crowded. For example, we prefer to go to the beach in early fall, after school starts and it's a little cooler, but still warm enough to swim. But not in February, when it's freezing and nothing is open.

Saturday Special #14: Creative Adventure

Playing catch-up again. This is from June 30.

  1. While in a forest, you see a cabin ahead, you walk up to the cabin and knock on the door. When no one answers, I notice that the door is unlocked, so I walk in.
  2. In the cabin you find a large chest, you open the chest, and find that it's full of gold doubloons.
  3. Suddenly you hear a noise coming from the outside, you hide behind the chest (it's really big) and hope that I don't get caught.

Saturday Special #14: Back to the Rack

Today's topic is all about returning purchases.

  1. What's the oddest thing you've ever returned?
Sperm. Although we've now un-returned it.
  2. Do you return things you don't like or just keep them?
Sometimes I return them, other times just keep them.
  3. What's the largest item you've ever returned?
I can't think of anything really big, but my brother once returned a car that he was going to buy, and Shrike is considering returning the PS2 that she bought with her birthday money.
  4. Have you ever returned a dress/outfit you wore to a special occasion?
I haven't, but a friend of mine once bought a dress, wore it to her father's funeral and then returned it. With her mother's blessing. She wasn't the kind of girl who would normally wear anything even remotely funereal.

Saturday Sunday Special #12: If You Could Only . . . You Would . . . .

I'm running late again, because I was away Friday - Saturday, and didn't get a lot done after I got home on Saturday. But, here it is!

Life always has it's ups and downs and is sometimes disappointing, but on we dream and wish, "if I could only. . . . "

  1. If I could only choose any place on earth to live, I would:
Live where we do now in the summer time and back home in Texas in the winter. That would be the best of both worlds, weatherwise, and would let us spend time with both of our families.
  2. If I could only buy anything I ever wanted, I would:
If I really could buy anything that I wanted, then I suppose I would buy everything that I want! Including the two "dream homes" - here and in Texas!
  3. If I could only do whatever my heart desires, I would:
    Have a baby.
  4. If I could only write a great novel about _____, I would:
I don't really know what I'd write about, but I would hope that it would be inspiring and life-changing to those who read it. And that it would make me a very rich.
