Saturday Special #24: Autumn Favorites
I took a peek at this week's questions right after I'd posted my Thursday Thirteen! Oh well, nothing wrong with a few more . . .
- Favorite Autumn Activity:
Halloween - At our old house, I enjoyed sitting on the porch with Shrike handing out candy, but there's not much Trick or Treat in this neighborhood (plenty of kids though, that's odd). Last year we threw a party, and we're planning another one for this year. Oh, and Election Day :-) - Favorite Autumn Meal:
Thanksgiving Dinner - Favorite Autumn Drink:
Woodchuck Hard Cider (Shrike and I shared one on Sunday - hopefully, it will be my last for the season ;-) ) - Favorite Autumn Weather:
Cool and crisp, but not too cold. Enough for a sweater or light jacket, but no coat, hat or gloves required.
Can you share the recipe for Woodchuck Hard Cider?
ReplyDeleteI love this time of year... your answers are great. I'm with Toni, what's Woodchuck hard cider??

We always get the first flavor. I didn't know there were others. It is a sweet apple cider that you have to watch out for. It does not taste like Alcohol and so can creep up on you. Because we live in a schizo state, (no, I mean geographically as well as mentally), we cannot get this at the beer store or the liquor store. We can get it at our work states or we can get it carryout from a bar. It is neither beer nor liquor so the state stores do not carry it.
And bonus points if you can drink a few of these while reciting the how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Special bonus points if you don't confuse these with groundhogs as I always do. Hey honey, can we pick up some groundhog cider?
ReplyDeleteWhat are woodchucks and groundhog. I have always heard of them and have never seen a picture. I do know about porcupines and some small hibernating animal whose name I forget, but which were used as research animals by one of the researchers in the lab where I did graduate work. VERY mean when they "de-hibernated".
ReplyDeleteMost everything you wanted to know about marmots...
ReplyDeleteWow, I stand corrected about Woodchucks. I went looking to find the difference between them and groundhogs and evidently, there is no difference:

But I guess Woodchuck cider sounds much more appetizing than groundhog cider. I kow there was a restaurant in Bossier City, La., known as Teddy Bear Sandwich Den. I later found out the food was delicious but the name kept me away for a while because I am not about eating wild game. And get this, a groundhog/Woodchuck is sort of an overgrown squirrel which makes me laugh because my mom thinks they are cute, and any type of rodent she hates on general principle. People in my family think the groundhogs are cute because they remind them of our former dog, Calli, a sweet little mutt who unexpectedly died of stomach trouble. Calli loved to eat, so waddling groundhogs remind us of her. But to further confuse the issue, there is also the gopher: http://www.answers.com/topic/pocket-gopher?cat=technology
This guy really does look like a rat and no amount of waddling can save him from that. He is also an overgrown squirrel but not the same as a groundhog/woodchuck.
So, anonymama, are any of these marmots the grumpy ones that don't like waking up? Or were they prairie dogs, moles or voles? How many underground rodents are there?
I reread my previous posting and it was in serious need of editing! Sorry about the grammer and punctuation.
