A Cautionary Tale

The following is a true story. No foolin'.

Two years ago today, a family friend received a phone call from her son, whose wife had recently found out she was pregnant, via in vitro fertilization.

He told his mom that his she had just had an ultrasound, and they'd learned that one of the two embryos they'd transferred had split, and she was now carrying triplets.

He waited until the next day to call back and say, "April Fool's!"

The next week, he called again.

Since his last call, his wife actually had gotten an ultrasound, and it actually had shown that one of the embryos had split, and they actually were expecting triplets.

There was no question that he was telling the truth this time, as he was in tears when he called.

The three boys were born prematurely but, at just over eighteen months old, they are now all doing great.

No word on whether their father will ever consider pulling an April Fool's Day prank again.

  3. The latest thing she's told me about multiples is, "If you have more than one, I'm selling the rest on Ebay. You'll just have to decide which one you like best."
