Family Day

Shrike's grandma turned 81 on Thurday and, that same day, went into the hospital with some gastrointestinal issues. She seems to be doing better, but they're not sure yet what the problem is. They think it's gastritis, but will know more after they do some tests (upper GI?) tomorrow.

The hospital she's in is about an hour (and 2 states!) away. Today we went down there with Shrike's parents to visit.

We met up at their house (about five minutes from us) around 11, picked up some subs for lunch, and went to pick up her Pappy at his house. We had lunch with him, then the five of us continued on to the hospital.

In the time that we were there, Grandma had EIGHT other visitors - Pappy's brother and sister-in-law, her niece and nephew-in-law, and two different sets of friends. In addition to the five of us.

People! The poor woman is sick - let her rest!

She does seem to be in good spirits, though, and feeling pretty good, for being sick. She was probably exhausted by the end of the day but, then again, so are we!

Here's a funny story. She's in a semi-private room, and when Shrike's uncle and aunt (mom's brother and his wife) visited yesterday, either her aunt or the roommate said to the other "You look really familiar. What's your name?"

It turns out that they graduated from high school togeter! In a town about two hours away!

Small world.

So, we didn't get home until close to 5 pm; I heated up some of the pot roast (which, by the way, was delicious) for our dinner and then packaged some up and took some of it over to Shrike's parents, so they can take it to Pappy tomorrow.

I don't think he's eaten much while Grandma's been in the hospital. I think she does all the cooking, and I doubt that they have much convenience food on hand.

Last night, he did take home the cheeeseburger that they brought to Grandma, despite the "bland diet" that she's supposed to be on. He declared it "the worst thing I've ever eaten."

So, for both their sakes, your positive thoughts, healing energy, prayers, good vibes, reiki, mojo or whatever you've got for a speedy recovery are appreciated.
