What A Do!

Shrike's working this evening, so the big family Thanksgiving to-do will be on Sunday, but the three of us went out for lunch today.

Peeper picked out her hair accessories. It's a bit over-the-top, but hey, she was participating and cooperating, so I'm down with it.

Mama. Just Take a Deep Breath. Now, Walk Away.

That was a dry erase marker, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. (It's all cleaned up now.) But, needless to say, the markers are in time out for a day or two.

Ballerina Princess - And an Amazing Discovery!

Peeper and I went over to T's house this afternoon for a Sophia the First house party. It seems she's a Thing, and all the little girls know about her, and she had a full-length movie coming on the Disney Channel this evening. Peeper didn't know or care about any of that, but she did have a good time.

It was a princess-themed tea party, of course, complete with a story and games. We went with Ballerina Princess, since Peeper doesn't have any other princessy costumes. She was thrilled, and was begging me to get in the car and go, thirty minutes before the party started!

On our way to the car (we stopped at the mailbox first).

Eating a princess cupcake. Look at her nose. She has a cold and it's gotten quite boo-boo. Poor baby!

Listening to Mrs. T. read the story.

Cheese and pretzel magic wands!

But the best part? When we got there, Mrs. T. asked her to "autograph" the Sophia the First story book. She sat her down at a little table, gave her a Sharpie, and we said, "Can you make the E?"

Yes. Yes, she could. And all the rest of the letters, too. Well, Mrs. T. helped with the little e at the end.

Later, she was coloring a picture of Sophia, and T asked her to put her name on the back. She did this one all by herself!

I seriously almost cried when I saw her do it the first time. As I've mentioned before, fine motor skills are not her strong suite. She still really struggles with even tracing straight lines, and the concept of coloring within lines is completely foreign to her.

At school, they have laminated sentence strips with their names in dotted-letters, and Velcro on the back. When they arrive in the morning, they take them out of their cubbies, trace their names, and stick them on the "at school" flannel board.

When I've asked her about it, she tells me that "the teacher helps with the little e," but when I've asked her to "show me how you write your name at school," she just scribbles and refuses to do anything.

Just a few days ago, I asked our friend J, who's subbed in her class several times, whether she writes it herself at all, and she said no, they help her with the whole thing.

So I really had no idea that she could do this!

Christmas Parade

Yes, on November 17. It's always the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Don't ask me.

I didn't get any photos of the parade itself, but Peeper was pretty damn cute watching it.

Photo Fail

Peeper and I were each on our computers, when I looked at her and realized that she's colored all over her body with a (washable, thank goodness) marker.

I grabbed by phone and tried to get a picture of it, but as you can see, that didn't go so well.

Thinkin' Lincoln

We had homework this week for Peeper's class. It was a family assignment to disguise a turkey, to help him survive Thanksgiving.

The assignment, technically, asked us to disguise him as a member of our family, and to think about what's unique about us, such as interests, hobbies, etc.

Since Peeper couldn't think of a single thing that makes our family different or unique or special, and most of her suggestions were sort of random like "We could put a cape on him," I suggested that we disguise him as a president.

Of course, the easiest one (and one of her favorites) was old Honest Abe.

I think we did a pretty good job with it, if I do say so myself.

I meant to take a photo of her working on it or showing it off, but I forgot. So this is all I've got for the actual Daily Peep pic.

ABC Lunch

Peeper's class had an ABC Thanksgiving lunch today, with the parents. The ABC part is that each kid brought a dish to share that starts with the same letter as his or her first name.

Peeper insisted on E-is-for-(scrambled)-eggs.

I tried to talk her into eggplant, or all sorts of other egg dishes, but nope. She wanted plain ol' scrambled eggs. Well, okay then.

Check-Up Time

Peeper had her well-child exam today. Or, more accurately, her almost-well child exam. She has a bit of a cold.

She was just as cooperative as she was at the dentist yesterday, except for kind of flaking on the eye exam when it came time to actual do it, just like last year.

She even put on a tiny little paper gown.

For about two minutes.

I didn't get any photos of her actually with the doctor, but she was super-cooperative with both him and the nurse, and he says that she's doing great.

Her height is 37" which is the 4th percentile. He said that's really been pretty consistent all along and "you can't fight genetics." Her weight is 35.6 lb which is in the 54th percentile. He was not concerned about it being higher than her height percentile, but when I asked, he said that if those two were to start moving way apart, then we might have reason to be concerned.

For now, though, he said that she's a very healthy little girl, and a "delight" and that we should "keep up the good work!"

Our one concern that we discussed with him is that she's been having some pee-pee accidents lately, and even when she makes it on time, it seems like she's peeing a lot sometimes. Not always; sometimes she'll go hours, but the other times, she'll go four times in an hour, or will pee her pants twice in an hour.

He said the frequency and urgency can be caused by a urinary tract infection, so we're going to test her for that, to be sure. I've collected a tiny bit of pee (I got more on my hand than in the bottle!) and I'll drop that off at the lab tomorrow.

I'm also writing a note to her teachers, to give them a heads up that the doctor thinks there might be a physical cause (she's had four or five accidents at school) and to ask them to send her to the potty at least hourly.

More info on that when we get it.
