Windy Day

This photo doesn't really do justice to what happened in our backyard this afternoon.
What I should have gotten a picture of, before we cleaned it up, was the huge pile of shattered glass that used to be the top of this patio table.

Or a video of me, wrestling with the umbrella (which seems to have caused all the trouble), trying to crank it down without either it or me blowing away.

So, I guess we'll be in the market for some new patio furniture, come spring.

We're thinking maybe something in wood, or metal, or anything but fucking glass.

  1. Crap, that stinks. We've had some items blow into other peoples' yards but nothing as exciting as a busted glass table top. I hope we stay that lucky. It's pretty bad out there.

  2. It was awful.

And I didn't even mention the part about trying to get the dogs in, before they stepped in the glass, or a tree fell on their heads or something.

PerfectPup was in the far corner of the yard, not budging.

(I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was scared.)

I tried to carry her, but Galoot was jumping on us, and trying to get her.

So, I had to get him in first, then carry her in.

As I was getting her to the door, I put her down, there was another gust of wind, she got scared and ran off again.

I caught her again and carried her back to the door.

There's Shrike, standing in the doorway.

I'm holding a forty pound dog, panting like I'm dying, and she's just looking at me like I'm a crazy person.

Whozat: Hello! Look! (at the former table)

    Shrike: Oh my GOD!

The whole time I was battling the elements, she was in the bathroom putting on deoderant and whatever else it is that one does when just having gotten out of the shower, with no idea what was going on outside.

She did do most of the clean-up work, though. After I went for the pushbroom and ended up having to carry PerfectPup again, this time to get her in from the garage. Little shit.

  3. Did you have a real storm? As in the tornados that wandered around some areas last week? We once had a patio table shatter and we never got all the glass out of the pebble concrete. I say never. Bet Rita scoured it out.

  4. No, it wasn't an actual storm, just windy as hell.

With some half-assed snow kind of blowing around from time to time.

I must admit thinking to myself, "Self, didn't you learn anything from all those times that Anonymama sent you out to the yard to bring in the patio furniture, because there was a storm a-comin'?"

On the other hand, those were real storms, for which we had a few days warning.

Regular-ass wind catches you by surprise!

  5. A woman at work said her storm door shattered today. Some dumbass really should have put this table in the shed months ago....
