Hurricane Humberto
You may have noticed that Anonymama and LadyKay have been strangely quiet in the comments section of late.
That's because they've been without power all day, thanks to Hurricane Humberto.
This storm was a sneaky little bastard, going from a tropical depression to a hurricane in only fourteen hours.
My family and their neighbors went to bed last night expecting some rain and wind, and woke up this morning to find themselves in the midst of a Category I Hurricane.
(The wimpiest kind, as such things go, but still.)
I talked to my mom this evening, and she said that the power is out and there are lots of limbs down and things like that, but no serious damage at her house or LadyKay's.
As you may have gathered from some of their previous comments, my family lives in the area of Texas that was devastated by Hurricane Rita almost exactly two years ago, so they certainly didn't need another storm.
Luckily it sounds like most of the damage was minimal this time around.
Watch The Weather Channel's coverage of Hurricane Humberto.
You would think being in Texas that I would pay attention to these things! Hope they have their power back soon!
ReplyDeleteWell, Texas is a biiiiig state. I doubt they notice when you have weather in your area, either.
ReplyDeleteThe lights (and A/C!)are back on at my house! Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance!!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymama and Anonydaddy are still waiting though. :(
Anonymama called, their power is back on, although her A/C is being cranky about coming on. She is currently waiting for Johnny O. to show up and make it better. I am sure she is washing clothes like a mad woman about now.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am on the second of about 4 or 5 loads. Johnny came and diagnosed the AC and it is tragic news. DOA. Probably a lightening strike. Makes me wish that when we re-uped the insurance and looked at deductible options, I had chosen the low one. Still, power is on, we have lights, computers, cooking facilities, washer and dryer, FAX (vital to Daddy), fans, lift chair, mechanical bed controls, can opener and assorted other "necessities". I am busy throwing away stuff from the refrigerator. Didn't lose nearly all, but a lot. We will never again ignore a tropical storm because "35 to 40 with gusts of 50" is no big deal. No Sunday School tomorrow as no power at the church which took a major roof hit. Just finished the fix from Rita. Lots of our town has not been repaired from Rita, yet. They say it takes 5 years for a community to recover from a major hit, such as we took in 2005. Our streetlight poles and electricity poles are not vertical any more. The on in front of our house, a concrete one, is about 15 degrees from vertical. When I leave town I am always struck by the uniformity of poles. Anyway, we survived with no major problems except the AC. Thankful to not have a tree through the roof as was common after Rita. Anonymama
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you've got your power back and no serious damage, but that really sucks about the AC.
