Vacation Recap: Day Four - The Trip Home

On Monday, we woke up in plenty of time to catch our shuttle to the airport, and were almost ready (dressed, but not quite packed) about thirty minutes before it was due - when the driver called to say he was there!

I looked out the front window and, sure enough, there he was!

I told him that we weren't expecting him yet and we'd be out as soon as we could.

I suspect that the two business fucks who were already in the van were a bit annoyed with us, but what are ya gonna do?

Or, maybe they weren't annoyed at all, and are just rude.

They were sitting in the first and second seats of the van (bench seats for three), each on the far right, closest to the door.

Neither made a move to even gesture at allowing one of us to crawl over and sit with him. (Not that we wanted to, but they could have offered.)

Neither even made a gesture to remove his seatbelt either, although the shoulder belts connect to the outside wall of the van, and stretch across the aisle, meaning that we had to crawl under them, as we squeezed down the side of the van to the back seat.

Assholes.

When we got to the airport, we just went out the back, over the luggage. I don't know if they "got it" or not.

Again, we were at the airport in plenty of time, and even got some lunch (including a beer for Shrike and a glass of wine for myself).

When we got to our gate, they were looking for volunteers to be bumped to a later flight, and were offering a $300 travel coupon (plus a meal voucher) per person.

We offered (figuring that would just about pay for another trip down at Christmas) but it turned out they had room and didn't need to bump anyone after all.

We did each get a coupon for a free drink onboard, though, for offering.

By the time we got on the plane we weren't up for the drink, but we'll save them for a later flight.

We ended up getting home around 8 pm, and even had time to walk the doggles before it got dark. They obviously missed us, but we hear they behaved themselves while we were gone.

All in all, it was a really good trip and, as always, it's hard to leave, knowing it will be a while before we see everyone again. (Maybe a long while before we see the extended family.)

Still, it's kind of nice to be home.

  1. Welcome home! I cannot believe you didn't ask those ass holes to move over, or at least hop out so y'all could get in!
