Daily Peep: Heirloom
Here's Peeper in the cradle, at our family Thanksgiving dinner (which was today).
We got a photo of her with everyone who's slept in it: Shrike's mom and uncle, Shrike and her sister, her sister's two kids - and now Peeper.
Well, technically, she lay in it for the photo, and might have dozed off for a minute. She did have her eyes closed. We're not letting her actually sleep in it, because it's not exactly built to twenty-first century safety standards. (More like 1940s safety standards!)
I mean, look at those bars. Forget her head - her whole body could fit through them!
We also took one with all those folks, plus Shrike's grandparents. Even without the cradle, it's a great four-generation photo of them with all their progeny, but the cradle makes it all the more special.
We're going to send it in to both Shrike's newspaper and our local paper, which ran the Thankgiving story last week.
We also took another four-generation of just Peeper, Shrike, Mom and Grandma.
Shrike is holding Peeper, her mom is standing beside her, and Grandma's on the other side of mom. They are all looking at Peeper, and Mom has her arms around everyone. It's beautiful.
That is nice. A family heirloom. Do I see her eyes? How did she like being with crowd? And with the other kids?

ReplyDeleteJust noticed. The bar space would never pass muster nowdays, would it. She could sneak right through!
ReplyDeletelol - I just finished editing the post, and mentioned about the not-so-safety standards of the 1940s.
ReplyDeleteActually, it did have a bumper pad, but we left it out for the photo, so we could see Peeper.
Of course, bumper pads are now a safety no-no themselves.
(SIDS risk)
Peeper did fine with the crowd and everything; she's pretty laid back.
Niece (who's 8) is very interested in holding her and feeding her (on the couch, with supervision, of course) and helping with diapers.
She's actually quite good at entertaining and distracting her during the diaper change, as well as toting and fetching supplies.
She even got her to quiet down when she was screaming because she was strapped in her carseat to go home, and we were finishing up with the goodbyes and packing up and such.
GodzillaBoy (nephew, 11) is the one who is jealous. He's actually said so, in those words. He did go tell her goodbye as we were leaving, though.
And, yes, we did manage to catch her with her eyes open for a few minutes for some of the photos.
She'd actually been awake and looking around for several minutes, but most of them were spent fetching the cradle, gathering the relatives, etc.
Now that she is finally full term, she will soon engage more. Will begin to smile, etc, and scream for attention, more, too, I guess. On wait, she is never without attention, is she? When she visits us, I never plan to put her down!
