Or, Maybe This One

We also like this 2004 Suzuki Aerio SX. It has 21,130 miles on it, and costs about $500 less than the PT Cruiser.

Taking gas mileage into account, we're looking at about $15 less per pay check (every two weeks).

Here's a comparison between the two.

What to do?

  1. Okay, just looking at them, yes, the PT Cruiser is a little bit cooler and is electric blue, but the Suzuki is newer, cheaper, has less miles and is still pretty cool. That's a lot of votes in the Suzuki's favor.

Is there a significant difference in size? From the pics the PT Cruiser looks bigger. More space is important.

Any other condition differences? Warrenty differences, etc.?

  2. If part of that savings is gas, then if gas gets higher that savings will get greater.

  3. Ok, I have a kid, so I can tell you a few things you might not be thinking of now, but perhaps you are...

When you get knocked up, trunk space becomes very important. How wide is the trunk? Can you fit a stroller and two jumbo boxes of diapers in there along with your groceries?

You also want to get one with back doors that are very large and easy to get in and out of. Think carseat. Think kicking toddler who doesn't want to get into the carseat. You get the idea.

Personally, I like the yellow one. I hear the PT Cruiser doesn't have a lot of pick up. But you seem to be in love, so I also think going with your heart is important.

  4. Don't worry, 4-doors, cargo space (hatchback or wagon), and 3 rear seatbelts (so we can put the carseat in the middle, which is safest) are absolutely non-negotiable requirements.

In fact, I've told the salesmen that up front and said, "Don't even talk to me about me anything that doesn't fit at description."

For the couple who did, I told them that we're hoping to have a baby within the next year, and that's why we need those things.

We've not driven the Suzuki, just peeked at it through the windows, but I think we're leaning that direction now.

The price is not that different, in fact the Cruiser is a better because it's a more expensive car with, but a $5 week difference in gas will add up (I figured that at $3/gallon).

The Suzuki being a year ner with 20,000 less miles on it is a big point in its favor, too.

Also, it's a manual transmission, which I kind of enjoy. I was a little bummed about the Cruiser being automatic.

The Cruiser looks huge, but would you believe its total length is actually shorter than a Neon?!

Looking at the numbers, the Cruiser wins out in most measurements of people room, but it's close.

The only measurement where theres a significant difference is that the Suzuki has 3 inches hip room in back - which could be important if we ever need to put a couple of people back there with carseat.

Or two carseats and a mommy.

    Or, heaven forfend, three carseats.

Uh oh, time work! More later!
