  1. That sums up the plastic theme. My experience is that children tend to love those big baskets of old toys, especially if they are broken and ready to be pitched, better than the new ones. When I had a young one I got all sorts of wooden neat toys but there was nothing like an old toy box at a grandparents with miscellaneous ones. Your toy basket might be particularly appreciated if it weren't at your house once your kid is old enough to dig in.

  2. Are any of them from China, as in, um, toxic? Man, I am SO glad that I don't have to explain to my kid that Barbie is poisonous.

  5. What? McDonald's happy meal toys aren't good enough? ;)

My sister did the same thing for my eldest- he thought it was so cool!

  6. No lead that we know of, although it seems that this has been recalled.

(Wondering why we own this? Read all about it here.)

Not for lead, but because there are multiple magnets and if they come out, a kid can swallow them, and then they stick together in their guts and bad things happen.

Nobody playing at our house currently is of "Hey, let's see how these magnets taste!" age, so we're not worried about it for now.

And, good eye, Toni. Most of those are, indeed, Happy Meal toys. When we watch Shrike's sister's kids, it's usually a bring-your-own-McNuggets affair.

  7. LK - Oh my God, I cannot even begin to imagine the trauma and drama that would have ensued from a lead poison Barbie at your house ten or fifteen years ago.

Remember when the cat ate Barbie's hands?

  8. That's a great collection of toys - and a lovely pic for this week's theme. I always knew Barbie dolls were poisonous - I used to call my evil bimbo boss at work Toxic Barbie!
